Edtech product design from someone who has designed two learning products

Our creative advisor was the first designer at Toppr, whose learning products reached more than 1.2 million students, and later built the product, brand and design team at Zero, an AI-native learning and hiring platform. The studio is new; that experience is what it is built on.

Whose work this is: This page describes experience our creative advisor, Atul Khola, gained as an employee of other companies. Those companies are not non boring.gg clients. The studio is new and has no client work of its own to show yet. Zero and Toppr are not clients.

The experience, stated plainly

Toppr, 2016 to 2018. Atul Khola was the initial designer at an Indian after-school learning app that Byju's acquired in July 2021 (The News Minute). He designed products used by more than 1.2 million students, including Doubts on Chat. More on Toppr →

Zero, from 2025. He joined as the third person in the company and designed the product from a blank file: learners enter a simulated company, work on projects with AI coworkers and present to stakeholders. He built a 12-person Design & Experience team, and the beta drew a waitlist of 10,000 people. More on building Zero →

Zero's brand site, Why Zero, won Awwwards Site of the Day and FWA of the Month; Awwwards files it under Culture & Education.

What is hard about designing for learning

What we do for an edtech startup

For a first version or a rethink of the core learning loop, the Product Design Sprint ($25,000, 6 weeks): the main flows, their states, and a light design system. When the company also needs a name people remember and a site that explains it, Brand + Site ($22,000, 5–6 weeks). Open-scope product design runs $15,000–$45,000 and brand identity $15,000–$35,000.

What we do not claim

The studio has no edtech client work yet. Zero was preparing for its first users when Atul wrote up his time there, so we have no learning-outcome or retention numbers from it, and we will not imply any. Zero's funding is not public and we do not describe it as a funded company. We are product and brand designers, not curriculum designers; the pedagogy is yours.

The work behind this page

Building Zero

Zero · 2025 onwards · Head of Design & Experience

Atul Khola joined Zero as the third person in the company and spent about a year and a half designing the product from a blank file, building a 12-person Design & Experience team, and shaping the brand, the investor story and the launch.

Why Zero website

Zero · 2026 · Head of Design & Experience: concept and design direction

An interactive story site for Zero, an AI-native learning and hiring platform. Concept, storyboards and visual direction came from Zero's in-house design team under Atul Khola; BUNQ LABS built it. It was named Awwwards Site of the Day and FWA of the Month.

Toppr learning products

Toppr · 2016–2018 · Product Designer (initial designer)

Atul Khola was the initial designer at Toppr, an Indian after-school learning app, working across online and offline experiences. He designed learning products used by more than 1.2 million students, including Doubts on Chat.

Questions

Has non boring.gg worked with edtech companies?

Not as a studio; it is new and has no client list yet. Our creative advisor, Atul Khola, was the first designer at Toppr from 2016 to 2018 and has led design at Zero since 2025. Both were employers, not clients.

What is Zero?

Zero describes itself as an all-in-one app to get hired into in-demand careers. Learners practise a role inside simulated companies with AI coworkers and managers. Award listings categorise its website under education.

Is Zero a funded startup?

We could not find public information about Zero's funding, so we do not describe it as funded. We only state company facts we can link to a source.

What results can you show from this work?

Toppr's learning products were used by more than 1.2 million students. Zero's beta drew a waitlist of 10,000 people and its design team grew to 12. Those figures come from Atul's own site. There are no learning-outcome figures, and we do not make any up.

What does edtech product design cost?

The Product Design Sprint is $25,000 for 6 weeks; Brand + Site is $22,000. Open-scope product design runs $15,000–$45,000.

Do you design curriculum or content?

No. We design the product, the brand and the site: the flows, the interface, the system and the story. Curriculum, assessment design and content stay with your team.
