Design systems sized for the team you have

Our creative advisor led NeoPOP, the design system CRED used across seven product lines and later open-sourced. A seed-stage company needs a fraction of that. The skill is knowing which fraction.

Whose work this is: This page describes experience our creative advisor, Atul Khola, gained as an employee of other companies. Those companies are not non boring.gg clients. The studio is new and has no client work of its own to show yet. CRED and cult.fit are not clients.

The experience, stated plainly

NeoPOP at CRED, 2022. CRED had seven product verticals growing at once. Atul Khola led NeoPOP, a system for product, interaction and motion that gave those teams a shared grammar without making every product the same screen. It earned him a seat on CRED's Design Council. CRED later open-sourced it; the web library is public on GitHub. He also helped move CRED's design team to Figma.

cult.fit, 2019 to 2021. He laid the foundations of the design system for the gym vertical while launching it.

At Zero, the design team he built prototypes in code and ships production pull requests, which is where a system stops being a Figma file.

What a system is for

What a startup needs, by size

The most common mistake is building the third tier for a company at the first.

What we do

A light design system is part of the Product Design Sprint ($25,000, 6 weeks): it comes out of designing your real flows, not before them. For a standalone system or an audit and rebuild of an existing one, open-scope product design runs $15,000–$45,000. To keep a system healthy while you ship, design team extension is $8,000–$15,000 a month. We deliver in Figma with tokens and named components, and review pull requests where that helps.

What we do not claim

The studio has not delivered a design system to a client yet. NeoPOP was built by CRED's design and engineering teams, with Atul leading the design; the open-source libraries are CRED's. We design systems and specify them for engineering. We do not ship your production component library, though we work in the pull requests with the people who do.

What the data says

Of the 705 YC 2026 homepages we analysed, 49% are built in Next.js, which usually means the marketing site and the product share a codebase and should share tokens. The breakdown is in State of YC startup design 2026.

The work behind this page

work · led by our creative advisor · not studio client work

NeoPOP design system

CRED · 2022 · Lead Product Designer: led NeoPOP

CRED had seven product lines growing at once and needed one design language that could flex across them. Atul Khola led NeoPOP, a system for product, interaction and motion that CRED later open-sourced.

cult.fit gym experience

cult.fit · 2019–2021 · Senior Product Designer

Atul Khola owned the gym experience inside cult.fit's app: he helped launch the vertical, laid the foundations of its design system and redesigned booking, check-in and workout journeys.

CRED Cards management revamp

CRED · 2025 · Lead Product Designer: led the design pod as IC lead and manager

Cards is CRED's flagship product. Atul Khola led a small design pod that rebuilt card management from scratch around clearer control, faster actions and one view of a member's cards and dues.

Questions

Did non boring.gg build NeoPOP?

No. NeoPOP is CRED's design system. Atul Khola, now our creative advisor, led it as Lead Product Designer at CRED in 2022. CRED later open-sourced it. CRED is not a studio client.

When does a startup need a design system?

When the second designer or the third engineer joins, or when a second product surface appears. Before that, tokens and a dozen components are enough. If screens made by different people have started to look different, you are already late.

What do you deliver?

Tokens for colour, type, spacing and motion; components with their states in Figma; usage rules written for engineers; and a handoff mapped to your codebase. We size it to your team and avoid documentation nobody will read.

What does a design system cost?

A light system is included in the Product Design Sprint at $25,000 for 6 weeks. A standalone system or a rebuild is scoped under product design at $15,000–$45,000.

Do you write the component code?

No. We specify components for your engineers and review their pull requests. For marketing sites we build in Framer or Webflow ourselves.

Can you fix a system we already have?

Yes. We start with an audit: which components are used, which are duplicated, where product screens have drifted. Then we cut before we add.
