NeoPOP: the design system behind CRED, later open-sourced
CRED had seven product lines growing at once and needed one design language that could flex across them. Atul Khola led NeoPOP, a system for product, interaction and motion that CRED later open-sourced.
role: Lead Product Designer: led NeoPOP
Context
By 2022 CRED had seven product verticals growing at the same time. Each team was solving the same interface problems separately, and the app risked looking like seven apps. The company needed a shared language that kept its character without forcing every product into the same screen.
Atul led NeoPOP while he was Lead Product Designer at CRED. The system covers product components, interaction behaviour and motion. CRED later published it for anyone to use; the web library is on GitHub under the CRED-CLUB organisation.
What was done
- Led the design of NeoPOP as a scalable system across product, interaction and motion.
- Gave seven product teams a shared grammar, so new screens were assembled and not reinvented.
- Left room for personality. The goal was a language that could flex, not a kit that made everything look identical.
- Separately, helped move CRED's design team to Figma.
Outcomes
- NeoPOP was open-sourced by CRED. The web library is public on GitHub. source: github.com/CRED-CLUB/neopop-web
- The open-source release was covered by Analytics India Magazine. source: Analytics India Magazine
- The work earned Atul a seat on CRED's Design Council. source: atulkhola.com
- It reduced the cost of reinvention across teams. That is his description; no figure is published, so we give none. source: atulkhola.com

NeoPOP is CRED's design system, built by CRED's design and engineering teams. The open-source libraries are maintained by CRED. No awards are claimed for this piece.
What this means for your project
A startup does not need seven verticals to need a system. The second designer or the third engineer is usually when screens start to drift. In our product work the system is part of the deliverable: tokens, components and documentation engineers use, sized for the team you have.
