Media.net: acquisition, onboarding and monetisation design
At Media.net, an advertising technology company, Atul Khola redesigned the company site, cut onboarding drop-off for advertisers and publishers, and designed finance and ad-monetisation products for Forbes.
role: Product Designer
Context
Media.net builds advertising technology for publishers and advertisers. It was acquired in 2016 for $900 million, so by the time Atul joined in June 2018 it was a scaled business where design was judged on revenue. He was Product Designer there until October 2019.
He calls it his crash course in acquisition, onboarding and monetisation. The work was funnels: who arrives, who signs up, who finishes setup, who earns. It is the least glamorous entry on this list and the one most like the problems B2B startups bring us.
What was done
- Redesigned the Media.net site, the top of the company's acquisition funnel.
- Redesigned onboarding for both sides of the business, advertisers and publishers.
- Designed finance and ad-monetisation products for Forbes.
- Worked from funnel data: where people dropped, and what each step was worth.
Outcomes
- Top-of-funnel performance improved by 47% after the site redesign. source: atulkhola.com
- Advertiser and publisher onboarding drop-off reduced by 15%. source: atulkhola.com
These figures are reported by Atul on his own site. Media.net has not published them and we have not verified them independently.
